Parasite Control & Prevention

A year-round plan that includes a combination of preventives to protect against parasites.

Starting your cat or dog on a parasite control plan is the best way to protect them against diseases that are expensive to treat and in some cases, even fatal. Our veterinary team can assess your dog or cat’s risk for contracting certain parasites and prescribe a preventive that best suits their needs.

Why do healthy dogs and cats need preventives?

You can help keep your dog or cat healthy by protecting them against parasites. Heartworms, fleas, ticks, and other internal and external parasites are much more than just pests. They can cause life-threatening conditions for your dog or cat. They can even cause severe, potentially fatal, health problems for you and your family. Particularly for children, pregnant people and those who are immunocompromised, they are at a higher risk for parasite infections. For example, parasite infections can cause blindness and seizures in children.

How do I choose the right prevention plan?

We recommend a preventive regimen for your dog or cat based on lifestyle and risk factors. We can also provide advice on keeping your whole household safe from parasitic infections. Our parasite protection plans typically include broad spectrum medications that protect against a range of parasites. Though some parasites are more common in warmer months, we still recommend that your dog or cat take preventive year-round. Some parasites they could be protected against include:

  • Hookworms
  • Roundworms
  • Whipworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Heartworms
  • Fleas and ticks
